17 Jun एक नई दिशा: Community-Driven Initiatives for Girls’ Education
While India has taken some outstanding strides in the dimension of Girl’s education in the past couple of decades, qualms regarding girls’ education have always been some of the most challenging tasks for indian society to resolve. Certainly, success has been witnessed evidently in the last decade, increasing the fragment of girls’ education in national and international attempts. The progression, however, has also been plagued by major lacunae-especially in terms of the rural and backward sectors.
The Shivpata Rambahadur Foundation is dedicated to the disparities and envisaging a holistic approach to development that is socio-economic in nature. Therefore, from the mission and strategies of the SRF, we can mine some innovations in ideas or measures that are likely to better the state of girls’ education in India.
Current Challenges in Girls’ Education across the nation
Deep-rooted cultural norms and gender biases in many parts of the country prevent girls from getting access to education.
Early marriage, gender-based violence, and customs force girls to drop out of school.
Poverty is a great barrier. Families may put more emphasis on investing in the education of boys rather than girls since they have limited financial resources.
Many rural schools lack basic facilities such as classrooms, sanitation, and transportation means to school, among others.
All these, generally, affect the girl child more due to her being subjected to inadequate safety and hygiene measures.
Even if girls manage to find a way to school, the quality of education might be below standards. Inadequately trained teachers, old curriculum, and learning materials make sure that no effective learning is realized in schools.
Innovative Ideas and Measures to Improve Girls’ Education
Shivpata Rambahadur Foundation has a saturated integral approach on what could be done to salvage the education of the girl children in India:
Community Participation and Awareness Campaign
The local leadership and influencers should work toward the cause of girls’ education. Such as the Gram Pradhan, the Gram Secretary etc. This will be a bottom-up approach to help instigate cultural attitude change and sensitize the parents of little girls toward embracing the education of girls.Creation of workshops and campaigns on Gram Panchayat level, Ward level & Block level for raising the awareness towards importance of girls’ education would break myths and misconceptions that stand in the
way of progress.
Scholarships & aid programs
Scholarships or special financial aid programs are a good go to for needy girls who can’t afford the fees, books, uniforms, and other school expense.
Infrastructure Improvement in School
Money should be spent creating hygienic and safe facilities for schools with separate girl’s toilets and menstrual hygiene facilities. Village level local transportation solutions should be devised in loop with the Gram Panchayats to ensure the safe travel for girls to and from school .
Quality Education and Teacher Training
Specialized training for teachers will be provided to enable them to engage with the girls better and address more specific gender-based needs. Redesigning of curriculum should be done to make it interactive, inclusive, and relevant for little girls which would enable them to develop the ability to think critically and become problem solvers.
Use of Technology
Use of the learning platforms that are of a digital nature should be adapted, so that the quality content can be accessed from the remotest corners. Deployment of mobile learning units equipped with digital learning solutions to bring girls in remote areas under the learning canopy, like mobile libraries & schools in a Van or Truck etc.
Health and Nutrition Programs
Embed health and nutrition programs in schools are essential so that the girls studying there are healthy and prepared to learn in school. Periodical health checkups to be conducted on a regular basis while promoting interventions in most common health issues that are barriers to school attendance and performance. Providance of mid-day mal was a milestone idea. However, the Menstrual health of little girls is a grave concern in the rural & semi urban areas. We are living in an age where girls as young as
8 years of age are experiencing the beginning of their menstrual cycles.Teachers can play pivotal role in bringing appropriate awareness of female biology and upkeep of one’s mentrsual health, to girls below the teenage group as well.
Parental participation
Holding workshops for parents in rural & semi urban areas helps them to understand how educating their little girls will add value to the future. Forming a cordial one to one parent-teacher relationship brings assurance to the parents that the teachers have the best interests of their girls at their heart also it encourages them to send the little angels to Schools and become a part in nation building.
The Shivpata Rambahadur Foundation promises a mission to provide an all-inclusive development program for the uplift of the downtrodden and marginalized community, and that projects a workable blueprint to address the deficiency in girls’ education in India. Through all-inclusive and multilayered approaches that include community engagement, financial and infrastructural support-based improvements, quality education, technology, and others, one can create a situation where every girl learns, develops, and realizes her potential. Together, we can make sure that girls’ education is an actuality, not a dream.
